Known as the “Gem of the Catskills,” Windham, New York, is a year-round weekend destination for New Yorkers and a site of numerous second homes, and it is especially popular among winter athletes. For one such homeowner, this residence also serves as a family-wide Thanksgiving retreat, yet in 2008 her arrival for early holiday preparation revealed significant flooding. With only two months before Thanksgiving, Sharon Davis Design oversaw demolition and removal of water-damaged property, renovated the impacted area, and realized a new ground-floor wing to support the expanding family tradition.
The design of the addition was customized for both the family’s comfort, and its unique personality. Guests can shake off their ski gear in a spacious entry, finished in herringbone-patterned brick flooring and walnut-stained slats, that interprets the Catskills’ Arts and Crafts and mid-century aesthetics in a refreshing way. Similarly warm, yet clean-lined materials flow into the new guest room and bathroom to complete this statement of modern rusticity.
